Community Garden Planned for Mount Airy

Community Garden Planned for Mount Airy

A new community garden providing residents with healthy food will be planted in Mount Airy, according to the Mount Airy News.

The garden will be about 50 to 60 feet wide and at least 80 feet long and will be behind the Rockford Street firehouse.

Construction will begin at the end of this month, with the first plants set for mid-August. The initial crops will include greens and turnips.

The produce will be given to the Greater Mount Airy Ministry of Hospitality, which supports The Shepherd’s House and Blue Ridge H.O.P.E., both which help people in need.

The garden resulted from a grant by Surry County Health and Nutrition Center and Mount Airy Parks and Recreation through Nourishing North Carolina.
