Senator Hagan to Visit Pilot Mountain Pride and SCC | Business
Senator Kay Hagan will visit the Pilot Mountain Pride Agriculture Center, a local distribution center for produce, on Tuesday.
Local farmers bring locally grown produce to the center. Afterwards, the produce is distributed to restaurants, grocery stores and other organizations in the greater Winston-Salem area.
Produce gathered at the center has not traveled more than 25 miles to get there. The center has been a major benefit for the local economy in regards to creating agricultural jobs.
Pilot Mount Mayor Earl Shepherd, director of the center, Charles Boles, director of Surry County extension services, Bryan Cave, and assistant county manager for economic development, Chris Knopf, are among the officials joining Senator Hagan for the tour of the facilities.
Senator Hagan is also touring the new Shelton-Badgett N.C. Center for Viticulture and Enology at Surry Community College in Dobson on Tuesday.
The 16,000-quare-foot facility will house classrooms, labs, an event hall, a winery and climate-controlled wine storage.
The center is scheduled to open on Friday, November 5. It will provide workforce training and industry support for the grape and wine industry in the region.
